Welcome to the Tresmeer Parish Council website.
The Parish Council is here to help and represent you. Please view Agendas and Minutes to see what we do and how you can have your say on local matters, including planning applications.
Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 pm in the Village Hall. All meetings are public. You are most welcome to attend. Kindly note, there's no meeting in August.
Please note that the policy of Tresmeer Parish Council, in accordance with the Parish Council’s Standing Orders and Cornwall Council’s Code of Conduct, is that all decisions, correspondence and public notices are discussed and agreed upon within the Parish Council. They are not made by any one individual.
We would like to remind you that Parish Councillors give their time voluntarily, for the benefit of the community. We therefore ask that they are treated respectfully. Unacceptable behaviour towards any member of Tresmeer Parish Council will not be tolerated. Thank you
Dog awareness and responsibility.
The Parish Council has received further complaints about dogs running loose and fouling on, and immediately in front of, residents properties in the Churchtown area. This is unnacceptable!
The dogs in question have been identified and yet again we respectfully request their owners take immediate steps to ensure their dogs are contained on their own property.
A dog is frequently observed walking alone along the road in Churchtown and sometimes interacting with the recycling bags.
This dog has also been observed running in and out of the main thoroughfare through the village, which not only endangers the dogs life but could also impact on the safety of others. The owners need to be aware that if a dog causes an accident their owner could be liable for costs and, at worst, prosecution.
We would draw your attention to the Dog Welfare and Enforcement page on Cornwall Council's website where there is a lot of useful information. Dog Wardens and Enforcement Team members have the authority to issue Public Spaces Protection Orders and Fixed Penalties.
There are specific laws that apply to dogs which owners should adhere to and include the following:
1. All dogs must be microchipped and listed on a National Register.
2. You must not let your dog out from your property on its own at any time.
3. All dogs must, when out, wear a collar with a disc containing the owners contact details.
4. If your dog fouls in an area with public access, you are required, by law, to clean it up and properly dispose of it. Failure to do so will result in a fixed penalty of £100.
5. Owners are required to always keep their dogs under control.
Tresmeer Parish Council has a duty to act on the behalf of its residents. The Council recognises that most dog owners act in a responsible manner and hope that this issue will be dealt with by those accountable, and that we will not be required to take further action.

BONFIRES
Just a polite reminder for anyone planning a bonfire. Although not illegal to have a bonfire in your garden there are rules and guidelines that should be followed.
RULES:
Safety is an important factor
1. Do not leave a lit bonfire unattended.
2. Burning rubber, oil, plastic or paint cans violates environmental protection laws and can cause significant health issues.
3. Do not use fire accelerants, these can cause the fire to become uncontrollable.
4. It is against the law to allow smoke to drift onto a public highway due to the significant danger it poses and you can be fined £5000.
5. Do not leave drink cans around the fire as the fumes from the aluminium is toxic.
6. Ensure all flames and embers are fully extinguished prior to leaving the fire.
GUIDELINES
Consideration for your neighbours is an important factor
1. Keep bonfires away from outbuildings, trees and fencing.
2. Consider wildlife. Prior to lighting, check for hedgehogs etc which may be under mounds of earth and leaves.
3. Avoid windy days and be aware of wind direction which could cause smoke in your neighbours garden.
4. Discuss with your neighbours if you plan a bonfire and be considerate. People are entitled to enjoy their outside space especially when the weather is good and it allows them to bring washing in.
5. Time your bonfire to be considerate to others. Early morning or early evening might be more appropriate.
6. Avoid burning damp or green matter as this causes excess smoke.for long periods. They should be finished and extinguished by dusk.
